Koper is situated along Slovenia’s coastline, in the Istrian Region. The city is next to the country’s border with Italy and is officially bilingual, speaking both Italian and Slovene. Koper is a small, pleasant city. In the Old Town visitors can admire medieval and early renaissance buildings, such as the Praetorian Palace and Church of the Assumption.
Zadar is the harbor of Croatia on the Adriatic coast and the historic center of Dalmatia. It was an old Roman town and nowadays there are buildings with unique architecture, many of which are classified as World Heritage sites by UNESCO.
Dubrovnik, the so rightfully called "Adriatic jewel", is walled all around with ramparts that drop to the sea and enclose a town of closely clustered buildings, mostly attired in white walls and brilliant red rooftops. Time allowing, take the cable car and enjoy the best views of Dubrovnik and the surrounding area are, from the top of the Srd Hill.
Ancona, capital of the Marches Region, lies on the promontory of Monte Conero, directly facing the sea. Split into two parts - the historic center on Monte Guasco and the modern part on the coast - Ancona is a fascinating city. Among its principal monuments are the Cathedral of San Ciriaco, which dominates the city from the heights of Guasco Hill, the National Archaeological Museum of The Marches, the 11th-Century Church of Santa Maria della Piazza, Trajan's Arch, Mole Vanvitelliana, a military construction designed by Luigi Vanvitelli in the 18th Century and the Roman Amphitheatre (1st Century AD). The centre is pedestrianized, with plenty of shopping areas, elegant cafes, parks, piazzas and impressive buildings.
