Tauranga is a city on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island. It is situated in the Bay of Plenty and is protected by Matakana Island. In Maori the name Tauranga translates to “sheltered anchorage”. The town of Mount Maunganui stands at the entrance to the harbor, north of Tauranga. Auckland is the largest metropolitan area in both Polynesia and New Zealand. It is situated on a narrow isthmus of land that joins the Northland peninsula to the rest of New Zealand’s North Island. The concrete and glass Sky Tower, a massive "needle" type building, and the striking Harbor Bridge are the city's most iconic landmarks.
