Auckland is the largest metropolitan area in both Polynesia and New Zealand. It is situated on a narrow isthmus of land that joins the Northland peninsula to the rest of New Zealand’s North Island. Auckland is a major cruise ship port of call. The ships dock at Queens Wharf, within walking distance of downtown. The concrete and glass Sky Tower, a massive "needle" type building, and the striking Harbor Bridge are the city's most iconic landmarks.
