Saint John is the largest city in the Canadian province of New Brunswick, known as the Fundy City due to its location on the north shore of the Bay of Fundy at the mouth of the St. John River. Partridge Island Quarantine Station (1830), one of two major quarantine stations in Canada in the 19th century, established to protect the citizenry from contagious diseases carried by passengers and crews of in-coming ships. The Bay of Fundy is known for having the highest tidal range in the world.
