There is local museum downtown in original buildings from the previous century, among them a carpenter workshop and a salt warehouse. Qaqortoq is the fourth-largest town in Greenland, with about 3200 inhabitants. The name "Qaqortoq" means "the White Place," and indeed, 85% of the area is under ice.
